Blended game

A blended game is a partly physical and partly digital game. You still gather in a room with a tabletop game, but also use digital capabilities on your phone, tablet, or laptop.

A blended game combines the best of both worlds:

A physical element for collaboration, practicing conversation techniques, or engaging in discussions.
A digital element where everything is possible, from looking up information and compelling storytelling to simulating dangerous situations.

At the moment, I am working on the development of a blended game to make workplace stress a safe conversation topic for teams. In the long run, this can reduce the number of burnout cases within an organization.

Teams collaborate in this game to discover workplace stress signals and potential solutions. At the end of the game, they collectively create a plan to reduce or prevent stress in their own work environment.

What is the development process?

Determining the learning content

Together, we discuss the needs of the organization and the employees. We examine the current situation, such as identifying the current issues and defining the target audience. With the input of content experts and the target audience, I establish learning objectives.

Developing a prototype

Based on the learning content, I create a concept: the narrative that guides the learner. I outline how the content is incorporated into it with suitable game mechanics. Afterward, I test these game mechanics to ensure the game is playable.

Testing

Once the prototype is ready, the content can be refined. The game also receives an attractive and functional design. Then the target audience can test this version of the game. After incorporating feedback from this, the game is finalized.
